API offers comprehensive study abroad programs in the wonderful Costa Rican city of San Joaquin de Flores. The Instituto San Joaquin de Flores is a colonial-style building built specifically to be an academic and language school.

Topics available include Spanish language and culture, history, business, and environmental sciences. A Spanish for Medical Professions summer program is also available - a perfect option for nursing and pre-med students, or medical professionals. Advanced-level students may take classes at nearby universities. The program awards 12-18 credits in semester and 6 in summer.

API students who study at the Instituto San Joaquin de Flores are offered several unique volunteer and experiential service options.
