Named GoAbroad's Top Rated Program of 2018, African Impact's Big 5 WIldlife Research Project invites volunteers to join their field guides and research team for the ultimate African safari, enjoying daily drives through South African wildlife reserves to monitor and study the African ‘Big 5’ – the elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo. By protecting these endangered and at-risk species, volunteers can help conserve these incredible animals for future generations to see.

On daily game drives in search of the Big 5 and other African wildlife, African Impact will give you the tools and support on how to collect data on these animals, which are then used to identify individual animals using ID kits. Your observation and data collection is essential for providing critical information that will protect them from poaching, starvation, and misinformed culling.

Other volunteer duties include physical conservation work to restore game reserves and ecosystems, as well as learning how to compile and collect data, which is analyzed and used to create reports, maps, and up-to-date profiles of the animals that you observe.

No previous experience or qualifications are necessary for this project - just a passion for wildlife and conservation!
