Description

The Atlantis program gives pre-medical and pre-health students AAMC-compliant, ethical shadowing hours in international hospitals. All nationalities are welcome, but must be studying at an American university and fluent in English. The Atlantis mission is to help pre-medical and pre-health students pursue their callings in medicine passionately through their interactions in the field of international healthcare.

Atlantis is committed to partnering with students on their way to becoming a doctor, which is why we carefully design and run competitive programs to give you experiences that can help you get into medical school.

Shadow doctors in Spain this summer for 20+ hours/week in various specialties, and immerse yourself in the local culture. All nationalities are welcome, but must be studying at an American university and fluent in English.

Highlights

1. We prepare students for medical school admissions. This is the most practical benefit. Admission to med school is hard, and even if you’re sure you can get in somewhere, a better application allows more school choice, more scholarships, and eventually a better residency/career.

2. We do intensive shadowing. Shadowing in the US is difficult to arrange and simultaneously essential for pre-meds. Even when secured, US shadowing can be of poor quality.

3. We are a global experience. Pre-meds should understand healthcare in a global context to broaden their horizons and expand their perspective as a physician. Additionally our host countries see government as having a greater role in healthcare vs. the US; since the US is moving in that direction, such perspective is key.

4. We run during university breaks, so that pre-med students can gain a global experience without missing important pre-req classes.

5. We help students decide if medicine is the right path. Most pre-med students have not spent significant time in a hospital setting and do not have a real view of medicine.

6. Exposure to various specialties.

7. Global Cultural Experiences . Food, excursions, historic landmarks, beautiful scenery.

8. Volunteer. In a global setting.

9. Foreign Language. Often Spanish, which is valued in medicine.

10. Community. Join a network of Atlantis Fellows and local and international staff, doctors, etc.

11. Flexible program length to fit budget.
