An unbeatable conservation programme focused on the conservation and protection of black rhino and elephants in Zimbabwe. Support the conservancy's rhino breeding programme and get hands-on conservation experience. Join anti-poaching patrols and work closely with the game park team to ensure the safety and security of all the animals.

The conservancy is home to four of the Big 5 game - lion, elephants, white and black rhinos and several herds of buffalo. Volunteers get involved in all aspects of conservancy management and, because only 12 volunteers are taken at a time, get to form close relationships with the game park animals, particularly the elephants and rhino, and with staff and other volunteers.

What will I be doing?
- To support the black rhino breeding programme and maintain excellence in elephant conservation, volunteers collect data on their behaviour, movements and browsing activities and help educate the local community about the importance of conservation.
- Play a vital role in anti-poaching and conservancy management projects.
- Volunteers work in the school, giving additional reading lessons and encouraging children to appreciate the importance of conservation.

- When we say hands on, we mean hands on! At Imire’s volunteer programme you will get a real hands-on volunteer experience as you immerse yourself in the wildlife which surrounds you. Get involved with the day to day lives of the five black rhino, two white rhino and the elephant herd. Observe their behaviour and social interactions and learn more about the 50 animal and 150 bird species on Imire. You will get a real feel for daily life on an African game reserve.

- The diversity of the programme - from daily feed deliveries, anti-poaching patrols, animal monitoring, light veterinary work and general maintenance around the game park, to camp-outs in the bush, night drives and elephant interactions, no two days will ever be the same.

- Because the project only takes 12 volunteers, you will be able to form close relationships with the animals and people and see the tangible difference which you make each day.

- Game counts and herd monitoring. Take game drives around different areas of the conservancy checking on the condition of the herd animals, counting babies, monitoring pregnant mothers and identifying males who may need to be taken out of the herd.

- When you aren't working, there are ample opportunities for fishing, canoeing, sailing, horse riding, hiking, night drives and camping. You will never be bored!
