Description

Join a world-class research team in one of Africa's most beautiful coastal locations. Southern Mozambique is one of the best diving locations in the world, home to strong populations of whale sharks, manta rays and marine turtles, and is an important refuge for other threatened marine species like the elusive dugong.

Volunteers participate in marine field work and assist with taking identification photo's, measuring massive ocean giants, checking acoustic listening stations, observing environmental conditions, studying plankton, tagging animals and taking tissue samples. All the quantitative data is used for specific research projects, designed to protect and preserve these amazing marine megafauna.

You will dive four times a week down to depths of 30 metres, and in your spare time can learn to surf, snorkel the clear crystalline waters of the estuary, work in the community and go on dhow cruises.
