Our volunteer placement in Durban is a community-based project that addresses complex issues undermining children’s rights, including cases of sexual abuse. These kids are thrown into an ill-equipped criminal justice system, preventing them to talk about and express their ordeal in a way that protects their well-being. The added trauma of difficulty in communicating with police officers not trained in dealing sensitively with abused kids means that justice is often not served.

Participating in this program allows you to apply research methodologies, gain insights, and develop a deeper understanding of way of life in South Africa. You’ll handle everyday cases, including new ones, as well as follow up on closed cases and community outreach programs.

This volunteering project offers an opportunity to develop research for a third-year dissertation or to simply practice your academic knowledge in communities requiring assistance. While at Bobbi Bear, get the chance to conduct research based on your academic interests and dissertation topic.
