Description

Due to the social conditions in Nicaragua, a large number of children and youth can often not develop in freely, with equal opportunities and in a healthy way. A lack of education is one of the main obstacles, preventing people from improving their living conditions and from escaping poverty. In León, Nicaragua, we offer voluntary services for disadvantaged children and youth at various social education projects, including primary and secondary schools as well as day care centers. The children and youth who attend these projects mainly come from difficult family backgrounds, including problems related to parental alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence or prostitution, teenage pregnancy or unemployment of the parents. In the projects, the children and youth are not only provided access to education, but are also given support and assistance in a safe environment. Possible activities for volunteers include:

- Supporting teachers in pre-primary education (writing, reading, simple Math)
- Playing with the children
- General Childcare
- Teaching English
- Homework tutoring
- Development and implementation of creative/interactive learning games
- Teaching the children hygiene, cleanliness or general values ​​such as respect, responsibility, honesty
- Doing Leisure activities such as dance, music, painting, circus games, sports
- Assist with or implement activities related to environmental conservation, nature, geography
- Assistance with daily routines

Volunteers should be open to life in a different cultural environment, enjoy taking care of children and youth. Previous experience in childcare, teaching or education is an advantage, but not mandatory.

Highlights

We offer volunteer placements at various social and educational projects for disadvantaged children and youth in Nicaragua. These placements offer education, learning opportunities, sports activities and care for children and adolescents, aiming to further their their self-esteem, to discover their talents and to show them alternative perspectives on life.
